we have to recognise not that just some people are different...it is that we actually see the world differently and what we project into our minds differently, we project into our consciousness and in business it is the same - if you can get past human perceptive difference you can get a highly creative group around the table

Bernie Taylor is an independent naturalist, thought leader and author whose research explores the mythological connections and biological knowledge among prehistoric, indigenous and ancient peoples. His works in these areas include Biological Time (2004) and Before Orion: Finding the Face of the Hero (2017).

Bernie talks to Ed Andrew about the connection between neolithic cave art and the differences which either connect or polarise humanity. He takes his deep knowledge into modern day education and the corporate world teaching collaboration and creativity. Bernie has lectured at the Dept of Astro Physics at UCSD and the Institute of Astronomy at the University of Hawaii where his research confronts conventional thinking.

Ed was especially proud that this is the first episode that his 10 year old daughter Viva has started to ask questions of guests and exploring her love of the natural world, Viva takes a visual learning test that Bernie can do with your school to show the differences in what we see and how we learn.

Before Orion and Biological Time

  • Bernie guides Ed's 10 year old daughter through a visual learning exercise based on the 39,000 year old paleolithic cave paintings in El Castillo in Spain - highlighting the differences on how we all perceive our environment differently.

  • discussing Einstein, Picasso Spielberg all dyslexic geniuses who saw things differently

  • discussing how kids in the classroom are wired differently and see things differently, discussing autism in school and at work

  • Viva asking whether there is life on earth planets - and whether there is organic human life in the Universe - his talk at the Institute for Astronomy in Hawaii,

  • the origins of his research - evolution of migrations at different times each year, salmon migration - went out and talked to the Indians and their history and culture

  • palaeolithic cave art - the common source in Africa, Indonesia and Europe,

  • how the discovery of the the oldest human remains found in West North Africa and are 300,000 yo

  • looking at our differences and tying it into the modern corporate world - seeing things “we have to recognise not that just some people are .. it is that we actually see the world differently and what we project into our minds differently, we project project into our consciousness and in business it is the same"

  • talking about autism and dyslexia at work - they are brilliant minds at work but they are not invited to events due to their lack of social skills because of a lack of EI and this means we miss out on their insight and perspective because of their difference rather than embracing it.

  • don’t read the resume, don’t read the education on the resume - show the work you have done, youtube, transferable skills - people on the spectrum of autism may not have have the same social skills as others they do not interpret information the same way as you do and need to have sensitivity to that - if you can get past human perceptive difference you can get a highly creative group around the table

  • "parents have to step up as the systems will not do for them, have the parents help them (children) explore the width of life - we have to leave open a range of things for our kids - we have too do what makes the child happy not what makes the parents happy

  • explaining the painting at El Castillo and how animals in the panel represent the night sky, Greeks borrowed the constellations from the cave, how Greek astronomical records come from a palaeolithic cave 34,000 years ago, where they depicted not just African but European animals (40)

  • how his work "Biological Time: is now mainstream

  • have to bring all the brains around the table, listen to others and ask them what they see, we have to get away from the 'put in the box' test - have to invite others to share their perception (50)
